Ariel is a fictional character and the central figure in Walt Disney Pictures’ 28th animated movie, “The Little Mermaid” (1989). She also features in the film’s prequel television series (1992—1994), the direct-to-video sequel “The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea” (2000), and the direct-to-video prequel “The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Beginning” (2008). Jodi Benson provides the voice for Ariel in all official animated appearances and associated merchandise. She holds the fourth position in the Disney Princess lineup, being the initial princess who is not human, and the sole princess who becomes a mother to her own child.
