Happy Wheels has just been released amid the looming, distressing demise of Flash technology. That was a tense moment. We apologize for any inconvenience caused and hope that the anxiety over Flash’s discontinuation didn’t prevent you from getting a restful night’s sleep. If you weren’t aware that this game was in development, here’s some exciting news for you. As this is the initial public release, please bear with us as we work through any remaining bugs.
While I still favor Flash, what I appreciate about this version is its excellent performance on mobile devices. Currently, however, on-screen mobile controls are not yet implemented but will be included in the upcoming update. Thank you for your patience. If you’re eager to try it on your phone, a Bluetooth keyboard works very well as an alternative input method.
Although I originally stated that the game would run at 60 frames per second, some of the more challenging levels may experience noticeable slowdowns at that framerate. Fortunately, a setting is available to adjust this, and I may host a separate version running at 60 Hz for users with high-performance CPUs. Overall, Happy Wheels JS aims to faithfully replicate the original in both design and gameplay. The user database, levels, and replays remain intact since the initial release—only the impending universe-ending disaster has been eliminated.
