ARMA, stylized as ARMA, is a series of first-person tactical military simulation shooters originally designed for Microsoft Windows. Known for its emphasis on realism and simulation, the series combines large-scale military operations spanning expansive areas with more close-quarters combat. The franchise debuted in 2006, with subsequent titles released through 2013. Over time, ARMA games have been made available on multiple platforms, including Windows, Linux, Android, and iOS.
The inaugural game, *ARMA: Armed Assault* (also known as *ARMA: Combat Operations* in the United States), launched in November 2006 for Windows in the Czech Republic and Germany, followed by a European release in February 2007, and a U.S. release in May 2007. It was built on the Real Virtuality 2 engine.
The latest installment, *ARMA 3*, is a standalone title released for Windows on September 12, 2013, utilizing the advanced Real Virtuality 4 engine. Prior to its official release, the game was available to the public through Steam’s Early Access program starting on March 5, 2013. Between late 2015 and early 2016, *ARMA 3* was also released for Linux and Mac, initially in an earlier version with plans to synchronize the experience with the main Windows version later on.
